North Leigh Sports and Healthy Eating Week

All the children and teachers were delighted to celebrate our Sports and Healthy Eating Week in October.
The children especially enjoyed cooking and eating their healthy snacks!!
In class 4 the children made healthy cereal bars. They were delicious!!
The youngest children in Class 1 chose different, delicious fruit to make healthy smoothies.
They put their favourite fruits into a blender.
The children watched as their fruit was whizzed into a delicious, healthy, drink!
The youngest children enjoyed learning new playground games and rhymes.
Everyone had fun using different equipment. They made sure that they were putting lots of effort into their exercises to make their heart beat faster. Everyone is keen to get fit and healthy.
Everyone loves skipping and knows this a great way to get fit. The children in Class 3 have been
making up their own skipping rhymes.
This term we have been doing a short exercise activity together on most days. It is called 'Wake Up, Shake Up'!! The children in class 5 demonstrate the routines to the rest of the school. Holly says, "It is a lot of fun and I always have a smile on my face."
During our sports week we were able to learn how to play rounders and bench ball. We have been learning to play as a team, have fun and keep fit!
We were delighted to have a special tennis coach to teach us how to develop our tennis skills.
Two teachers visited from our local secondary school to teach classes 4 and 5 to play netball. It was great to learn how to pass the ball correctly and to play as part of a team. The school will be entering a team to take part in a Witney school tournament in April 2011.
Everyone loves to play football! The children had fun learning from our visiting football coach. Many children play football for local teams at weekends as well as at school.
The children were able to experience judo!! Specialist coaches demonstrated the different moves and encouraged the children to join a local club. It was hard to do the different moves but really good exerise!!

At playtime we have been using many new playground toys and equipment to help us get fit.

We are looking forward to doing many other sporting activities over the next months. Each class has made a healthy snack and will be sharing their recipes with you very soon!!

Please let us know about your Sports and Healthy Eating Week!!

Autumn Greetings from North Leigh

Harvest Festival in North Leigh
In October we had a Harvest Festival service in our church. Children brought fruit, vegetables and food in tins and packets and we took them all down to the church.
Some children painted pictures of apples to display.
Others baked Harvest bread.
Autumn flowers decorated the church.
We said prayers thanking God for the food we eat.
Our parents came to join in.
Afterwards the food was given to homeless people.
